The SI Cover Jinx. The Madden Cover Jinx. The announcer jinxing the place kicker. Henry Bennett. (Any Andy Griffith Show fans in the house besides me?) I nearly joined some select company in almost jinxing the Piranha Brothers last weekend. My apologies to an old friend. I didn’t mean it!

Whew, the Brothers dodged a bullet and an embarrassing one at that. Of course, I should have investigated a little before writing, as that Miami bye week rendered the Brothers a wounded animal heading to face the hapless Midgets. As they say, … any given Sunday. And chalk it up as a learning experience.

Nevertheless, the Piranha Brothers held serve in the Tommy Boy Division, hitting that exquisite 10-0 mark and putting the division title into a dormie state with only four games remaining. The question becomes, will the starters become restless and rusty before a meaningful playoff game on … Christmas Eve!!! Yesterday’s Corn and the Turf Turtles at 6-4 are mathematically still alive for the division title, but in reality are in a wild card battle. The dangerous Moops lurk at 5-5 while the suddenly spry Monkeys (4-6) are within shouting distance as well. Greased Lightning are also 4-6 but feel like they’re spiraling just a little.

Things are still a little bit interesting down by the river in the Matt Foley Division after the Bright 1s defeat last weekend, dropped them to 8-2 on the season. Beauty and the Beasts are just two games back at 6-4 while the high scoring Heroes sport a losing record (4-6) but a lively total point accumulation. The No Names at 3-7 are still hanging on and the now dangerous Ghost of Megatron is 2-8 but putting up very respectable scores each week.
And then there’s the Midgets (2-8).
Should the playoffs start today, of course, the Brothers and the 1s would be enjoying a bye week while the Corn and Beauty would be runner up wild card qualifiers. Their opponents would be Heath’s Heroes and the Mighty Moops, but just barely over the Turf Turtles. Keep plugging along, a lot is left unfold over the next four weeks.
Moops 158 – Megatron 123: The Moops rebounded nicely from last week’s debacle, led by waiver wire castoff Dak Prescott (41) and Trey McBride (21). Megatron feasted off Prescott as well, due to Cee Dee Lamb (39) and the rookie star RB, Jahmyr Gibbs (27).
Brothers 124 – Midgets 115: This one was tight throughout, but the Brothers survived another scary bye week, led to victory by Mike Evans (26) and CMac (21). The Midgets nearly pulled off the miraculous upset despite having TWO ZEROES in their lineup, one due to an injury (Tee Higgins) and the other due to lack of production (Jahan Dotson). Brian Robinson (30) and Kenneth Walker Junior the Third (23) led the Bitter efforts.

Beauty 124 – Lightning 108: Beauty and her beasts staked a strong claim to second place with a scrappy win, led by George Kittle (22) and Chris Olave (21). The Lightning were led by ROY CJ Stroud (22) and … Davante Adams (14).
Corn 148 – Heroes 126: The Corn picked up a brotherly battle victory, led by Sam Howell (27) and the Bucs D (25) while the Heroes continued to accumulate those critical points, led by TJ Hockenson (30) and Austin Ekeler (23).

Turtles 144 – Names 91: The Turf Turtles cruised to victory, led by Antonio Gibson (30) and Joe Burrow (24). The Names did not enjoy their new acquisition, Sir Trevor, who posted an anemic 5 points. Jayden Reed (19) and Josh Jacobs (16) led the No Names.
Monkeys 178 – Bright 1s 142: The Thundering Primates posted the high score of the week and handed the Bright 1s only their second loss behind the ageless Keenan Allen (40) and Brock Purdy (25). The Bright 1s took the hard luck L, despite Amon Ra St Brown (30) and Justin Herbert (29).

Remember, Saturday is our league trading deadline. After that, you’re at the mercy of the waiver wires! Also, one last reminder to our two owners in default, league dues are … due.
Not much interesting going on outside the league commissioner’s office lately. Helping out with some grandkids’ babysitting here lately, which makes me feel every year in my aching bones. Toddlers are meant for the young! Haven’t been able to finish our Netflix series yet. Hoping to see the new Hunger Games movie this weekend, but who knows? Seems like actual work, commissioner duties, a little DFS fun, and outside responsibilities are spending all my time lately. Hope y’all are doing something fun out there!
Enjoy the weekend!
