The fantasy football gods have smiled upon the SPFL and tightened up all the races and set up some real important matchups in the next couple of weeks. Not only did the two top teams go down to losses this past weekend, but the two lowest rated teams both picked up Ws. This ensures the No Names won’t set an SPFL record by going winless. In addition, all 12 teams eclipsed 100+ points, which is pretty good during bye season.
Let’s take a closer look…
In the Tommy Boy Division, the Moops and Monkeys are both 8-2 and square off against each other this week in a pivotal divisional showdown. The Bright 1s are only a game back at 7-3. The Heroes are at .500, with a 5-5 mark, but a very high point total for one of those treasured wild card slots. Megatron sits at 3-7, while the Midgets at 2-8 have their eye on getting out of the basement.
In the Matt Foley Division, the Lightning have surged into first place via tiebreaker at 7-3 with the Turf Turtles loss putting them at 7-3 as well. The Bull Rings are at 5-5 while the Piranha Brothers, slayers of the Mighty Moops, lurk at 4-6. The Corn is 3-7 while the red hot No Names are now at 1-9.
Next Week
Let’s take a look at these matchups now, while the standings are fresh on our mind. Only four weeks left, it’s sweaty palm season!
- Moops/Monkeys – a critical TB Divisional game. The Monkeys won the first matchup of the season over the Moops, so another win here would be a real tiebreaker advantage.
- No Names/Brothers – the Names would like to get a crooked number in the win column while the Brothers would like to continue to pile up some total points.
- Midgets/1s – the Midgets have their little eyes on fourth place while the 1s are trying to keep their focus and not look down the road.
- Rings/Turtles – low key game of the week here. Let’s say the Rings knock off the Turtles. And let’s say the Lightning lose their matchup below. Suddenly that MF Division race is tighter than my fist around a slice of bacon. On the other hand, the Turtles have one head to head win over the Rings already, so another win here, then with only three games left in the season after this week, a postseason berth is all but clinched.
- Megatron/Heroes – hmmm, maybe Megatron can make a move toward third place if the Heroes lose their focus and look ahead.
- Lightning/Corn – another low key game of the week contender. While the standings say otherwise, this could be a tough one for the Lightning as the Corn is one of the better 3-7 teams you’ll find. Can one Perry help out another? We shall see…
Brothers 146 – Moops 125: The Piranha Brothers showed some spunk putting up the third highest score of the week and knocked off the MIGHTY Moops, led by Raheem Mostert (25) and Tua (23). The Moops gave it a go but couldn’t survive the Joe Burrow bye week and fell despite Davante Adams (29) and Saquon Barkley (26) going all out.
Like I said at the start of this blog endeavor, I don’t know what I’m doing, but try clicking this link above. It’s a one minute Twitter “film” about the Packers not being dead yet. I know the Piranha Brothers ownership will appreciate it, if no one else.
Names 130 – Megatron 125: The Names are breathing a sigh of relief, thanks to Gabe Davis (21) and Derek Carr (19), while Megatron fell despite, once again, Patrick Mahomes (32) and the resurgent Jonathan Taylor (28).
Midgets 143 – Corn 127: To paraphrase Jimmy Johnson, “how ’bout them Midgets?!?!”. Led by Cee Dee Lamb (38) and James Conner (25), the Midgets came up large. The Corn were led by Justin Fields (46) and Aaron Jones (26).
BREAKING: After seeing the recent success of Jeff Saturday for the Colts, the Las Vegas Raiders are now reportedly ‘in talks’ with high school coach Eric Taylor.

1s 148 – Rings 128: The 1s picked up their fourth win in a row, thanks to Jalen Hurts (23) and D Hop (19) while the Rings were led by Dalvin Cook (27) and D’onta Foreman (22).
Lightning 133 – Heroes 121: The Lightning picked up a crucial TB Division win, led by twin 24 point outings by Josh Jacobs and Tony Pollard. The Heroes had great interest in that amazing Minnesota-Buffalo game, thanks to Justin Jefferson (35) and Josh Allen (22).

Monkeys 147 – Turtles 115: The Monkeys picked off a division leader (and look to do the same this week), thanks to Christian Kirk (31) and Stefon Diggs (24) while the Turtles were a little slow out of the gate this week, being led by Kirk Cousins (18) and Nick Chubb (17).
Not much going on from the entertainment front in the league offices. Watched the Yellowstone premiere on Sunday night. It was pretty good. Much better than last season. Blech! Watched a Hallmark Christmas movie last night with the wife. Makes Mrs. Commish happy and it’s so mindless than I can watch it and still ponder whether I have anything to offer up before the trading deadline on Saturday…
I know that network television is dead, but Mrs. Commish and I do still watch one network sitcom. It’s on CBS and called “Ghosts”. The premise is over the top ridiculous and I don’t suggest trying to pick it up mid-series, you need to back up and watch foundational episodes, but I gotta admit … it’s actually pretty good. You gotta listen to the banter and know the characters, but there’s occasional payoffs that make me laugh out loud. Still a long way from the pinnacle of Cheers, Seinfeld, and Office but at least its a network pulse.
Best of luck and enjoy the weekend!
