Sorry for the delay. I’m in the belly of the beast, the Marriott Marquis on Massachusetts Avenue in downtown DC, glad handing Senators for my nomination to the Cabinet as Secretary of Commissionership, so I’ve been a little busy. But not too busy to find time to post an SPFL update even though Week 12 has already started!
Week 12. Byemaggeddon in the fantasy football world. Some of us are weaker than others, but it’s not for the faint of heart regardless. Nevertheless, last night was quite a start to the week, a snow game, with the Browns in their classic Brian Sipe unis, Jameis Winston dropping quotes left and right, really fun watch. Even on an iPad because of the Amazon Prime nonsense.
In the SPFL, as we are headed down that homestretch … one division is looking close to done, maybe?, but the other one is tighter than some people’s purse strings.
While the Bright 1s (9-2) hold a full two game lead with three games remaining in the season, the Bitter Midgets suffered their second straight loss (8-3) are clinging like grim death to that first place position over the Auto Picks and the Moops, both with 7-4 marks.
Should the playoffs begin today, the Midgets and Bright 1s would have first round byes and be one victory from a spot in the SPFL Super Bowl, while the Auto Picks and the red hot Heath’s Heroes, (winners of six straight!) would be the runner up qualifiers. The total point wild cards at this point would be the Moops and Beauty and Her Beasts, but the Thunder Monkeys and Greased Lightning are within spitting distance.
We certainly had an interesting week in the SPFL to recap…
Mic’d up McDaniel is priceless 😂

Moops 130 — Brothers 114: The Moops limped their way to victory, led by Jonnu Smith (30) and JaMarr Chase (26) while the Brothers threatened the upset, thanks to Jameson Williams (24) and the Broncos D (23).

Check this one out … Megatron 127.84 — Beasts 127.14: You know it’s been good, when I have to include the decimal points! Megatron showed he’s not tanker, taking down a contender by a mere 0.70 points! Heartbreaker for Beauty and the Beasts, who were led by Joe Burrow (31) and the Lions D (24), while the Ghost was helmed by Josh Jacobs (25) and Jaxon Smith Njigba (21).
The 1980s were magical
Monkeys 164 — Midgets 143: The Thunder Monkeys have left their season’s slow start behind, but is it too late as they charge for a wild card spot? Taking down a division leader this week, Cooper Kupp (30) and Jerry Jeudy (28) led the way. The Midgets made a game of it, thanks to Amon Ra St Brown (38) and Brock Bowers (31).

Lightning 146 — Auto Picks 120: Another SPFL upset in a grudge match between frequent trading partners, as the Lightning tallied some important points and maybe a key victory, led by Breece Hall (32) and David Montgomery (26). The Auto Picks were led by Saquon Barkley (36) and … drumroll please … Aaron Rodgers (16), whose love affair with the Auto Picks ownership group and NFL career both appear to be over.
Now get this one — the winning team had a zero in their lineup along with three single digit scorers and the losing team had no QB to start, but they combined to put up over 330 points (!!!). Heroes 176 — Corn 158: Good grief. Amazing. The dangerous and surging Heroes were led by Taysom Hill (50) and Joe Mixon (39), while the Corn, losers of five straight but still sporting a good squad, were led by the Texans D (28) and Jauan Jennings (25).
Meanwhile, our league’s best team all season long, put up a putrid score that would only beat one other team this week … the one they were matched against. Bright 1s 110 — Turtles 81: Devon Achane (22) and Cee Dee Lamb (18) led the 1s, while the Turtles struggled to score beyond Puka Nacua (25) and Brock Purdy (19).
Next Week
- Moops @ Monkeys — could be a big game and the Moops are bye “weak”.
- Beasts @ 1s — definitely a big game, is the MF Division over … or still afoot?
- Midgets @ Lightning — first place vs fifth place … yet still mucho importante.
- Megatron @ Heroes — can the Heroes pick up their seventh straight W?
- Auto Picks @ Brothers — the Brothers trying to play spoiler with their newly healthy RB1.
- Turtles @ Corn — the Corn need points, not Ws.
That’s it for now. I hope you all have a great weekend. Once I get away from Capitol Hill tomorrow, I’m going to visit the newly re-opened Little Round Top at Gettysburg in my lead up to Thanksgiving. Safe travels to all on the road and I’ll catch up with you sometime next week.
Army’s uniforms for the upcoming Navy game, commemorating the 101st Airborne’s date with destiny at the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne. Even has specks of “snow”.
Army by 100, who’s with me?
