Commissioner apologies for the late posting and, as you’ll see, the rather straight forward recap of the 2022 SPFL semifinals. Nothing wrong at the league offices, we’ve just been making merry and the NFL Memes site was rather mundane this week, so I’ll keep it short and sweet.
That being said, it is an exciting time in the SPFL, as we are on the threshold of history being made. With a victory this weekend, one of our founding franchises, the Tennessee Turf Turtles can become the first ever female owned league champion. I wager that the vast majority of our other owners are rooting for history to be made, perhaps with the exception of the vanquished Greased Lightning and her opponent this week, the Bright 1s. And to be honest, knowing the Bright 1s ownership, I bet even he is sorta, maybe, halfway rooting for the Turtles. Although I know he’ll give his best shot at claiming yet another SPFL title and climbing ever closer to that total championships summit. He’s coming for the Moops!!
In the semifinal round, the Moops were unable to claim that elusive third victory of the season and fell to the Bright 1s by a score of 136 – 120. It was a back and forth affair throughout the weekend, but Jaylen Waddle and Playoff Lenny put up 27 points each which was enough to secure the W. Saquon Barkley (28) and Joe Burrow (22) led the Mayberry efforts, but three starters scoring less than half of their projected scores — most painfully Davante Adams (3), along with Juju Smith Schuster (5), and JK Dobbins (7), was the ultimate downfall for the Moops.
In the other final four battle, the Turtles took down the mighty Lightning by the score of 114 – 100. The Turtles were led by, as usual, Austin Ekeler (25), alongside Kirk Cousins (24) and overcame the negative three point output by their defense the Orange Crush of Denver. The Lightning was led by Rachad White (16) and Tony Pollard (14), but, much like the Moops, was waylaid by the ugly output of season stalwarts Justin Herbert (8), Tyreek Hill (14) and Josh Jacobs (7).
SPFL Super Bowl
Tennessee Turf Turtles vs. The Bright 1s: Yahoo oddsmakers show this one being tight, with less than a 2 point swing in the Turtles favor as of press time, with the Turtles a slight 51/49% favorite. It should be an exciting finish to a great season!
SPFL Consolation Bowl
Mayberry Mighty Moops vs. Greased Lightning: Yahoo oddsmakers are showing the Moops as a heavy favorite right now, with the Lightning entering into a depressive winter hibernation after seeing their dream season fall just short. While meaningless, I think we can all agree that the Lightning deserve kudos for having the best overall squad this season, but on any given Sunday (Thursday, Saturday, and Monday) … that’s why they play the games.
As a side note, looking at those pitiful semifinal round overall scores, the Bitter Midgets (!!) with 194 points and the Piranha Brothers with 149 points, collectively said, *&^%$#%%*^%&*^!!!
Best of luck to the Turtles and the 1s, and a Happy New Year from the league offices to each of you!
The Commish
I’d like to be the first on here to congratulate the Turtles on their Championship Win! I had slight hope going into the 4:00 games but knew it’d be a PuRdY difficult comeback. McCaffrey gave it his all but Ekeler refused to bow down. The spotlight of the SPFL championship was too bright for rookie Garrett Wilson who turned 11 targets into a measly 3 catches for 18 yards. The Turtles ultimately fielded a team that the 1’s couldn’t have beat no matter what roster was submitted today. KUDOS to the Turtles on a great season!
If it weren’t for this league and the effort our Commish puts into his weekly Blog, football season wouldn’t be as enjoyable as it is for me. So a big THANKS to our Mr. & MRS. COMMISH for making this another awesome year in the SPFL and Congrats again to the Turtles making SPFL History!
ON A SIDE NOTE:
If anyone needs something to watch and pass some time during the off-season, I would recommend Seal Team on Paramount+. It is 6 seasons so far with a good mix of action/drama that follows the lives of a Navy Seal team named Bravo!
