As so often happens in our corner of the fantasy football world, the playoffs are proving to be … surprising.
#6 Thunder Monkeys @ #3 Mayberry Mighty Moops
Monkeys 129 — Moops 123: The Monkeys went into this matchup as an underdog and after Cooper Kupp put up the shocking goose egg on Thursday night, things were looking good in Mayberry. Never one to run from a storm, though, the Monkeys clawed their way back, behind Baker Mayfield (31) and Jerry Jeudy (21), to hold a healthy lead over the Moops heading into the Monday night doubleheader. Alas, Caleb Williams let down his Moops one more time and when sensational wavier wire pickup Sincere McCormick went down with an ankle in the first half, the Moops fate was sealed. Jonnu Smith (19) and JaMarr Chase (18) led the Moops’ final effort.
#5 Beauty and the Beasts @ #4 Auto Picks
Beasts 150 — Auto Picks 126: The prior upset paled in comparison to this tail whipping, however. Many pundits had targeted the expected semifinal matchup between the Auto Picks and the Bright 1s as the de facto SPFL Super Bowl this year, but Beauty and her beasts pulled a Lee Corso and said, “not so fast, my friend.” Led by James Cook (29.7) and the Falcons D (29), the Beasts put up a formidable barrier that was too much for the Auto Picks’ AJ Brown (25) and Jordan Love (17) to overcome. A pedestrian Saquon Barkley outing (11 points) signaled trouble for the Auto Picks. Nevertheless, we all enjoyed having the Auto Picks’ ownership group invested and engaged again this season after a multi-year sabbatical.
FINAL FOUR
- Thunder Monkeys (+12) @ The Bright 1s
- Beauty & the Beasts (+9) @ Bitter Midgets
It’s shaping up to be a fabulous final four, with the ageless vet Bitter Midgets looking to capture their first championship since 2007, while the Thunder Monkeys also seek a third Farley trophy and first since 2019. And let’s face it, the Mighty Moops are no longer the Darth Vader of the SPFL. They haven’t won a title since Tom Brady come back from 28-3 to beat Matty Ice’s Falcons in some long ago Super Bowl. Our new bully is the Bright 1s, am I right? Yes, they only have two rings, but it seems like they’re in the championship round every year. And now, they’ve apparently recruited a Mini Me with Beauty and the Beasts, who’s seeking her first title in only her second year in the SPFL.
Who do you think will come out on top? As we saw, last week … you just never know! Good luck to our final four and to all of you, I appreciate you and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!
WE HAVE NEVER SEEN A TEAM AS LOCKED IN AS THE #LIONS.
Every player/staff member is on the right page.
