Can you believe that we are officially over halfway through the SPFL regular season now? In the Tommy Boy Division, the Moops are still on top at 7-1, but the Thunder Monkeys are screeching at them with a 6-2 mark. The Bright 1s are only another game back at 5-3, while the Heroes are 4-4. Megatron finds himself at 3-5 and the poor Midgets are 1-7.
In the Matt Foley Division, the Turtles are doing their part to make it a magical year in Tennessee, leading with a 6-2 record. The Lightning and the Rings are only a game back at 5-3, with the Corn and the Brothers both at 3-5. And … the No Names are starting to flirt with SPFL history, at 0-8, so far.
If the playoffs started today, divisional qualifiers would be the Moops and Turtles as division winners and the Monkeys and the Lightning as runners-up. Total point qualifiers would be the 1s and the Heroes. Following, in order would be, the Rings, Corn, Brothers, …. and then the NoNames, Megatron, and Midgets. But, with a winning streak here or there, those standings could shuffle and total point qualifiers could change. Keep grinding!
Moops 141 – Midgets 126: Almost a prescient prediction, as the Midgets were still in it, heading into Monday night and put up a fight against the Moops all weekend long. In the end, the Moops triumphed, led by Travis Etienne (27) and Amari Cooper (23) while the Midgets were led by Antonio Gibson (25) and Cee Dee Lamb (18).

Lightning 173 – No Names 130: The No Names were noble and gave it their all, but the mighty Lightning had too much firepower, led by Tony Pollard (37) and Tyreek Hill (31). The No Names were led by Derrick Henry (39) and Devin Duvernay (26).
Rings 183 – Corn 146: The Bull Rings piled up the points, led by Alvin Kamara (44) and D’onta Foreman (34), while the leading Corners were DJ Moore (29) and Jakobi Meyers (21).

Monkeys 147 – Megatron 93: The Monkeys cruised through the treetops, thanks to Dak Prescott (25) and Rondale Moore (23), while Megatron had Aaron Rodgers (16) and not enough running backs to field a full squad.

1s 185 – Heroes 118: The Bright 1s put up the top point total of the weekend and didn’t even have a TE to start. (Collective gulp). CMac (42) and D Hop (33) were spectacular, while the Heroes had an uncharacteristic middling showing, led by Josh Allen (20) and Isaiah McKenzie (15).

Turtles 175 – Brothers 86: I think this is the high channel game of the week, even echoing a Division II money game (think … UT-Knoxville versus UT-Martin). The Turtles were led by AJ Brown (39) and Nick Chubb (27) with the Brothers countering with Tua (29) … and … David Montgomery (11).
Next Week (it’s a tough bye week this week, shew!)
- Moops/Corn
- No Names/1s
- Midgets/Lightning
- Rings/Heroes
- Megatron/Turtles
- Brothers/Monkeys
Don’t forget the trade deadline is fast approaching! And, yes, we do have waivers that run all week long (Wed-Sat). The Turtles have somehow managed to be a top team with ZERO waivers so far. Impressive. Exciting to see Big Stone Gap’s own James Mitchell be acquired by the Bull Rings this week, bringing some old LPD action back to the SPFL, which had been absent since the glory days of Thomas Jones.
I remember during my daughter’s “senior night” walking out onto the field with her and Eastside had foolishly scheduled a game against Union. James walked out during pregame warmups and I nudged my daughter and told her, “I bet we’ll be watching him in the SPFL one day.” She said, “Whut?”. I said, “I meant, the NFL.” Here’s to hoping he seizes his opportunity with Hockenson gone and piles up some points for the Bull Rings!
Mrs. Commish and I broke down and went to the theater to see Halloween Ends last weekend. And … it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d been led to believe. I mean, I don’t recommend it for cinematic excellence, but I thought it was an intriguing story line curve ball and there’s nothing like seeing Haddonfield and hearing the music as All Hallows Eve approached. So … 2.5 stars out of 4.0.
My year as a blogger is a success. Got word that one of my readers finished Friday Night Lights thanks to my Mount Rushmore post. Go Panthers!
Have a good weekend and best of luck.
