Usually, after a week or two, I get pretty good at predicting football games and such, at least more than the average bear, but this year is just different. I seem to find a surprise or a shock every weekend, often more than once. But never was I more surprised than when I got a notification on my phone that there was a pending trade to approve and it involved … the Piranha Brothers. Years of silence on the Piranha Brothers’ trade front, crickets when trade proposals are sent, outright stubborness to tinker with rosters, but now, in 2024, PB ownership accepted a trade. And kind of a blockbuster, at that … Bijan Robinson and Mark Andrews going to the Auto Picks and Scary Terry McLaurin, Jordan Mason, and Courtland Sutton going to Piranha-town. I could have woke up with my face sewn to the carpet and I wouldn’t have been more surprised than I was by that development.

There are three zeroes left in the SPFL standings after four weeks. The Greased Lightning are perfect at 4-0, cruising toward the playoffs, but destroying their chances at getting any choice waiver wire pickups. On the other end of the spectrum, the Piranha Brothers and Turf Turtles are stuck at 0-4, but still showing some moxie, even in defeat. There’s not much mediocrity in the SPFL, with only one .500 team, the Corn of Yesterday, with all 8 other teams either being 3-1 or 1-3. But there’s still time to claw back into contention for us all.
This made me LOL. “Kentucky upset No. 6 Mississippi 20-17 with a late TD, and Ole Miss couldn’t connect on a field goal in the final minute.
Moops 124 — Turtles 109: The Moops have written off the Caleb Williams experiment at QB and are riding with Geno Smith, who, this time, did wrote back with 23 points to lead the Mayberry team. Kyren Williams added 22. The Turtles enjoyed King Henry’s feast in Dallas to the tune of 40 points, while CJ Stroud pitched in with 23.

Midgets 157 — Beauty & Beasts 116: The Midgets have come to play this year! In handing Beauty her first L of the season, Brian Thomas Jr (22) and Jahmyr Gibbs (21) led a balanced attack while leading Beasts were Justin Jefferson (20) and Joe Burrow (19).
Lightning 107 — Megatron 100: The Lightning just barely eeked out a win, led by Mike Evans (23) and Zack Moss (19), while Megatron was led by Jonathan Taylor (21) and Pat Mahomes (16). Jayden Daniels, on the Megatron bench, channeled Prime Time in his postgame quote with, “Do you believe now?”
Monkeys 153 — Heroes 95: The Monkeys picked up their first win in convincing fashion, led by the 49ers D (33) and Brian Robinson (22), while the Heroes had Xavier Worthy (18) and Pat Friermuth (16) pacing their way.
Auto Picks 155 — Corn 126: The Auto Picks continue to handle their constant roster churn with aplomb, surviving a goose egg (0) from newly acquired stud TE Mark Andrews, thanks to twin 33 point outings from Justin Fields and Nico Collins. The Corn put up some important points, thanks to DeAndre Swift (31) and Rashid Shaheed (26). Tyreek Hill and his 8 points are pointing TUA Kansas City Reunion dream.
Bright 1s 144 — Brothers 134: The Bright 1s continued their strong start, led by Jayden Reed (27) and Alvin Kamara (26). The Piranha Brothers enjoyed the Jordan Mason midweek acquisition to the tune of 26 points while rookie sensation Malik Nabers put up 23 before getting concussed.
